The Pendragon Legend doesn't take itself too seriously. Near the end, János praises Aldous Huxley as: "the cleverest and wittiest of all English novelists", and there's a lot of similarity in approach and tone to Huxley's early novels (The Pendragon Legend was written in 1934).
